Locked data collectors
Help Document

Diagnosis

The monitoring architecture locks a data collector if it detects serious problems. The collector can then no longer be started, not even manually in transaction RZ20.

Examples of serious problems that can cause a collector to be locked are:

  • A data collector triggered a short dump.
  • The monitoring architecture detects that a data collector has been running too long.

This node tells you whether one or more of the four data collectors ("Collector A", "Collector B", "Collector C", or "Collector D") have been locked by the monitoring architecture.

Alerts

Green:

  • None of the four data collectors have been locked.

Red:

  • At least one of the four data collectors has been locked and can no longer be started. The status message tells you which collector has been locked.

Procedure

Unlock the affected data collector or collectors:

  1. In transaction RZ20, navigate to the data collectors for the affected instance:
(RZ20 -> SAP CCMS Technical Experts Monitors -> All Monitoring Contexts
        -> <name of database collection> -> Collectors and Internals -> Collectors -> Collector A/B/C/D)
  2. Unlock the data collector:
    1. Select the data collector.
    2. Choose the "Details" pushbutton.
    3. Select the top line (for the data collector).
    4. In the menu, choose Edit -> Method Status -> Reset -> Data Collection Method.
  3. Then activate the data collector manually:
    1. In the menu, choose Extras -> Activate Maintenance Function.
    2. Select the data collector.
    3. In the menu, choose Edit -> Nodes (MTE) -> Start Methods -> Start Data Collection Method.

If the data collector turns green, the problem has been solved.

If you get a short dump when you try to start the data collector manually, analyze and remove the cause of the error. Unlock the data collector again and activate it manually.
