Diagnosis

The pure substance is marked as Confidential in the composition of a basic material or surface. This pure substance is listed according to either GADSL or REACH-SVHC, or both regulations. Listed substances must not be marked as confidential and have to be disclosed.

One of the following reasons issues this message:

  • You have marked a listed substance as confidential in the composition of a basic material or surface.
  • You have received and imported a supplier MDS that references a confidential listed substance.
  • You have already released a material MDS with the confidential substance. Due to a regulatory change, the substance is now regulated according to either GADSL or REACH-SVHC, or both. Now the released material MDS requires an update.

System Response

Based on the system configuration, the IMDS check sets the check result to Checked with Warning (yellow) or Checked with Error (red).

  • If the system issues a warning message, you are able to upload the MDS to the IMDS that accepts the MDS with warnings.
  • If the system issues an error message, you are prevented from uploading the MDS to the IMDS; the IMDS would not accept the MDS as it does not fulfill the requirements.

Procedure

Carry out one of the following activities:

  • Reject the received supplier MDS and ask for an updated version.
  • In the composition of the basic material or surface, disclose the pure substance by changing the composition type. Resend an updated MDS to your customers.

Procedure for System Administration

You can change the configuration for this check criterion in the Specify Checks and Single Criteria Customizing activity under Product and REACH Compliance->Checks.

This check uses the following check criterion: IMDS 2141.

  • Material categories in Product and REACH Compliance are mapped to objects in IMDS as follows:

    Product and REACH Compliance: Pure Substance - IMDS: Basic Substance

    Product and REACH Compliance: Basic Material - IMDS: Material

    Product and REACH Compliance: Surface - IMDS: Material

    Product and REACH Compliance: Part - IMDS: Component

    Product and REACH Compliance: Product - IMDS: Component

    Product and REACH Compliance: Bulk - IMDS: SemiComponent

    Product and REACH Compliance: RawMat - IMDS: SemiComponent.

  • The following abbreviations are used in Product and REACH Compliance without further explanations:

    IMDS: International Material Data System

    MDS: Material Data Sheet.
