Definition
This parameter is only relevant in background processing.
The packet size indicates the number of replenishment items (store/material combinations) that can be processed in a logical unit.
You can use this parameter to limit the number of items that have to be rejected when an error occurs. The smaller the packet size, the fewer items have to be reprocessed should an error occur. Small packets slow performance, however, so you should not make the value too small.
When creating packets, the system tries wherever possible, to group items belonging to the same store together in the same packet.
Therefore, items for a store that has already been entered, which exceed the packet size are included in the current packet. The number of these additional items can be limited by adjusting the tolerance of the packet size.
The packet size is only relevant for background processing. In online processing, all items are processed in a single logical unit.
Notes
The follow-on documents are generated using the store order. Every packet is transferred to the store order individually. Therefore package creation also has the effect that a document can only contain as many items as there are material-customer combinations contained in a packet.
In follow-on document generation for multi-step replenishment, package creation can also be used online.
