Definition
This indicator ensures that the record is excluded from the update. This can be useful if a rule with replacement characters exists and defines updating for all records. If records with exclusion indicators already exist, they are also excluded from the update.
A record is more specified if the individual fields appear with the following sequence:
Target/actual indicator
Variable field 1
Variable field 2
Examples
In record 1, the target/actual indicator is specified and both variable fields contain characters for replacement. Record 2 exists in which, however, variable field 1 contains a valid value. If record 2 contains an exclusion indicator, it is not included in the update.
In record 1, the target/actual indicator is not specified. Variable field 1 is, however, specified. Record 2 exists and has a valid target/actual indicator but both fields do not contain any data. Based on the sequence detailed above, the target/actual indicator is not important and this record is preferred. If record 2 also has an exclusion indicator, it is not included in the update. If the exclusion indicator were, however, to be set for record 1 but not record 2, the indicator would have not effect on the data as the record would not be pulled as it has a very low priority.
