Definition
A business process step is the smallest business unit in a business process. In the simplest case, a business process step corresponds to an R/3 document such as a sales order, purchase order, or delivery. In a more complicated scenario, a business process step may be represented by several R/3 documents. A business process step has only one master document, which can be displayed in the Trading Execution Workbench. In addition, any number of additional "background" documents, which cannot be seen in the workbench, may be associated with the business process step. The master document therefore serves as an anchor for the background documents.
Example
You can define the following steps for a back-to-back process in export trading:
- Shipping instruction
- Customs clearance
- Shipping completion
Customs clearance, for example, can be carried out using a delivery as the master document and a pro forma invoice as a background document.
