Definition
Defines the technical name of the hierarchy attribute that arises from a reference to an entity type.
A hierarchy attribute from a reference is an edge attribute with a property that reflects the combination of a node and a higher-level node in a hierarchy. If a given entity appears in different positions in the hierarchy (underneath different higher-level nodes), then the system stores the values of the hierarchy attributes separately for each of these positions.
A hierarchy attribute reflects a relationship of the type Referencing, from which the system derives resolved attributes with a reference to an entity type.
Use
If the name of the hierarchy attribute from a reference is different than the name of the referenced entity type, you have the option to specify a data element.
However, this data element must have the same technical properties as the data element of the reference entity type. The name of the hierarchy attribute from a reference must be different from all entity type names and hierarchy attribute names, with the exception of the name of the reference entity type itself. The fact that the relationship and the from-entity type are allowed to have the same name prevents the existence of different field names with the same meaning in the internal data structures or derived database tables once the data model has been exploded. When the aforementioned names are the same, you cannot specify a data element.
Dependencies
The referenced entity type must have the storage and use type 1
(with data element), 2
, or 3
.
Example
A profit center hierarchy with the attribute Standard Profit Center Group references the entity type Profit Center Group. In different places in the hierarchy, you can assign a different standard profit center group to the same profit center. The values of the standard profit center group can be assigned to existing profit center groups only.
