Definition
The linking operator specifies how a search criterion should be linked within a search query. This is relevant for those content providers where search queries can be set (search engines, online databases). If on the tab page for the preselection, you only select those content providers where no query can be set (for example homepages, news services), then the linking operator is ignored.
You set which linking operators a content provider suppports and which syntax is used for this in the Source Profile Builder: Start Source Profile Builder
The following values are possible:
- 'AND' link:
All search criteria linked by this operator must be contained in the result documents. - 'OR' link:
At least one of the search criteria linked by this operator must be contained in the results documents. - 'NOT' link:
The search criterion cannot be contained in the result documents.
Tip: Use the input help of the "Editorial Workbench" in the definition search criteria for a query (on the tab page "Information requirements"):
- No entry is automatically converted into an 'AND' link, since this is the preset linking operator.
- Partial entries ('a' or 'an', upper or lower case for 'AND', the same as that 'o' for 'OR' and 'n' or 'no' for 'NOT')

Use
Dependencies
The syntax for linking operators is maintained using Customizing. There is an appropriate transaction for every type of linking operator ('AND', 'OR' and 'NOT').
There is already a template, which you can copy from the Customizing client and then adjust if necessary.
