Definition

The base value for the valuation allowances of an asset (assets/liabilities) is applicable if a scrap value (either absolute or percentage) is defined in the master record of the asset.

  • Base value "Full Original Cost": Ordinary depreciation is based on the original book value (taking any retirements into consideration). Depreciation ends when the scrap value has been reached. This reduces the depreciable life of the asset.
  • Base value "Original Cost Reduced by Scrap Value": Ordinary depreciation is based on the original book value reduced by the scrap value (also taking any retirements into consideration). Thus, ordinary depreciation in individual periods is lower than when using the base value "Full Original Cost". But the depreciable life of the asset remains the same as defined in the master record.

Use

Choose the base value to be used for valuation allowances in the master record of the asset (assets/liabilities).
