Definition

Determines how goodwill is reduced or transferred in partial divestitures and transfers.

  • Proportional reduction: The amount by which goodwill is reduced is deduced from the relative change in the percentages of ownership.
  • No or complete reduction: In partial divestitures, goodwill is either not reduced at all or completely reduced (to zero). Which of these two possibilities is applied depends on the investment data of each individual transaction. In either case, the deviation from proportional reduction leads to the posting of a financial statement balancing adjustment.
