Definition

Use

If you select this indicator, any goodwill incurred during consolidation of investments is capitalized and undergoes manual extraordinary amortization.

Extraordinary amortization may be necessary, for example, if you manually test the goodwill for impairment and the result of which shows that the fair value of the goodwill item is lower than its book value.

Dependencies

In the following Customizing screens for consolidation of investments, you can make global or method-specific definitions for the amortization items.

In addition to extraordinary amortization, you can choose the options "ordinary amortization", "direct writeoff", "direct elimination", and/or "periodic reduction" for treating goodwill. When multiple options are chosen, you specify in the C/I method which option is to be valid for each method.
