Definition

Defines the following criteria for currency translation:

  • Translation Timeframe:
    Cumulative or periodic
  • Translation Rule:
    Example: Multiplication with the exchange rate of the current period; if value increases: multiplication with the current exchange rate; if value decreases: multiplication with the average exchange rate from the prior periods of the fiscal year
  • Exchange Rate Period Used:
    Example: Current period; same period of the prior year

Currency translation supports, for example, the following currency translation keys:

  • Periodic translation: Uses the data of the current period.
  • Cumulative translation: Uses year-to-date data.
  • Average exchange rate for value decreases: If values decrease, you can determine that the system translates the period value with the average rate, which is calculated from the rates of the prior periods of the fiscal year.
  • Target key figure is not changed: If the values are already entered in the target currency, the system does not modify the values. But the system still performs a reference translation and records a translation difference.

Use

You want to possibly use various currency translation keys depending on the selection made. For example, you may want to translate cumulative values for stockholders' equity, but translate periodic values for annual net income from the balance sheet.
