Definition

A forward exchange transaction is indicated by the purchase amount in purchase currency and the sale amount in sale currency as well as by the resulting forward rate between purchase and sale currency. The forward rate is the sum of a spot rate and a swap rate.

For valuation purposes (for example, swap accrual/deferral) the system requires a corresponding value to this swap rate. This value is calculated in the following currency of the purchase/sale currency pair from forward and spot rate.

For valuation purposes (swap valuation) the system also requires a swap market rate between purchase currency and sale currency. The value corresponding to this is also calculated in the following currency of the purchase/sale currency pair.

If either purchase currency or sale currency is the valuation currency of the valuation area, then the following currency is set the same as the valuation currency. If this is not the case, then the leading and following currency are determined from Customizing.

Example

Forward exchange transaction, purchase 1,000,000 USD, sale 1,355,000 CHF

Forward rate from USD to CHF 1.3550 (direct quotation), spot rate from USD to CHF 1.3548 (direct quotation), swap rate from USD to CHF 0.0002.

If the leading currency is USD and the following currency is CHF, this results in a swap in the following currency of 200 CHF.

If the leading currency is CHF and the following currency is USD, this results in a swap in the following currency of -147.62 USD.
