Characteristic Name Alias
Use
In Analysis Structures, Characteristics can have names which are larger than 7 characters. Because we wish to use the Characteristic Name as part of BW datasources ( generated in the OLTP system ), there is a potential problem with Characteristic names which go beyond 7 characters. Namely, that as part of a Datasource name, the length of the name may become longer than the current limit of 30 characters.
In order to solve this problem, a Characteristic Name Alias is provided as part of Datasource generation. When Characteristic Names go beyond 7 characters, the Generation program will look for an "Alias" name to use which is limited in size. If it can not find one, the program will terminate.
