Definition
A distribution from a retirement plan has tax consequences and the custodian/trustee may be required to withhold a percentage of the distribution payment for federal income tax purposes. The accountholder may elect to withhold a different percentage and/or an additional amount, or not to withold at all.
The total federal withholding amount is calculated as follows:
(Distribution Amount * Federal Withholding Percentage) + Additional Federal Withholding Amount
