Definition
In case the beneficary dies before the accountholder (plan owner) passes away, there are two options how the funds will be devided:
- Pro Ratio (the flag "Per stirpes" is not set): After the plan owner passed away, the funds in the retirement plan will be redistributed pro ratio over the living beneficiaries.
- Per Stirpes (the flag is set): After the plan owner passed away, the funds in the retirement plan will be distributed as if the deceased beneficiary was still alive. Instead of paying the funds to the dead beneficiary, the money will go to his/her heirs.
