Report definition

The Report Builder is used in the definition of reports in the Business Information Warehouse. The foundation for a report definition with the Report Builder is the amount of all key figures and characteristics of previously established InfoCubes.

On the left side you can see the selected InfoCube in a tree-like display. By clicking on the plus or minus symbol, the corresponding directory nodes of the InfoCube tree can be expanded or compressed. An expansion of the key figure node delivers the list of all key figures. With characteristics you get all values and variables for characteristic values.

In the middle area you can see a further hierarchy that represents the report to be defined (report tree). The report definition happens using Drag and Drop from the InfoCube tree to the report tree. The following report components can be defined using Drag and Drop:

@4G@ Filter

In the filter you determine the characteristic values that limit the data selection. Only the data that corresponds to the settings in the filter is selected then, in the report. A filter determination always consists of a value selection, i.e. either from a single value or from an interval. You can Drag and Drop a single value from the InfoCube tree or select it using the value editor (on the right of the screen). Use the entry fields of the value editor for determining an interval.

@5Q@ Navigation

Under navigation you determine a selection of characteristics and
key figures that should be available for navigation in the report. A default layout is established for the report with the assignment to the rows or columns. The "free characteristics" are available for navigation without having been determined in the default layout.

Key figure

Decide whether you wish to aggregate all the InfoCube data in the report on the number values of one key figure, or whether the report should be based on several key figures.

  1. If the report should refer to the number values of one key figure, select the corresponding key figure of the InfoCube tree and, using Drag and Drop, put it in the directory "Filter" of the report tree.
  2. To create a report with several key figures, you must assign the key figures to the column of the grid in the lower part of the screen. First select a column of the grid, by clicking on the column. The directory tree on the right, next to the InfoCube tree now refers to this column. Both of the text fields in the upper area of the window refer to the selected column and no longer to the report.
    You define a column either with the selection of a key figure or with the use of a formula for the calculation of a key figure.
    1. Selection of a key figure
      Using Drag and Drop pull a key figure from the InfoCube tree into the column tree. In the InfoCube tree some objects have been deactivated because they have already been used in the filter selection. These objects are no longer available for the report definition.
      You can limit the selected key figure further still by putting the characteristics and char. values or variables in the column tree using Drag and Drop. In this way it is possible to define completely new key figures.
    2. Use of a formula
      Select "Formula" and define the desired formula using the formula editor. You can see all the available operands on the left hand side. On the right, the prepared calculation functions are available. You can define the formula using Drag and Drop or by double-clicking.

In order to get back to the main view of the report definition from a column view, there are the following possibilities:

@3Q@ Select the symbol for "Report definition";

  • Select the report definition with the right mouse button on the grid;
  • Select the entire grid by clicking on the top left cell.

Save the report and assign it to the InfoCatalog.
