Definition
The term 'MultiProvider' is an enhancement of the MultiCube concept. Various InfoProviders can be involved in a MultiProvider; their data is joined using a UNION operation.
The following object types can be united to form a MultiProvider:
- InfoCubes,
- ODS Objects,
- InfoObjects,
- InfoSets.
Note:
- A MultiProvider itself contains no data, and is therefore not a data target. It simply brings together the data of the InfoProviders concerned and puts them into a common context.
- The UNION operation in not a JOIN operation.
- From the query view, a MultiProvider is a single data provider (InfoProvider). The InfoProviders that it is based on, and the UNION operations that have taken place, are not visible in the query.
- MultiCubes are, of course, also MultiProviders (as the MultiProvider is an enhancement of the MultiCube concept).
