Definition
The Content release type describes the Content version type.
There are three types of Content release types:
- R/3
These are DataSources, whose Content version corresponds to the Basis or SAP NetWeaver Release of the SAP source system in which the DataSource exists. DataSources of this type were developed before PI-Basis 2005.1 and therefore do not have an explicit version entered. Appropriate transformations are all those whose Content release type is also R/3, and whose Content version (that is Basis or SAP NetWeaver Release) is less than or equal to the Basis or SAP NetWeaver Release of the source system. If there are multiple objects with different versions of this type, the object with the largest version is chosen.
- SAP
These are SAPI DataSources which were given an explicit version during BI Content development.
The version is independent of the SAP system release in which it was developed and mirrors the development status of the special DataSource. Appropriate transformations are those whose Content release type and Content version agree with the type and version of the DataSource. - Other
Non-SAP source systems should also have a type and a release assigned to them. When creating Content, the DataSource and transformation inherit this type and release as the Content release type and Content version. Objects appropriate for a source system are all those whose Content release type is equal to that of the source system, and whose Content version is less than or equal to the release of the source system. If there are multiple objects with different versions of this type, the object with the largest version is chosen.
Use
Dependencies
The combination of Content release type and Content version defines the relevance or usability of the Content object for a particular source system or the affiliation of the object with a particular release-dependent content scenario. Using Content release type and Content version, Content DataSource and the appropriate Content transformations are assigned to each other and to the source system.
