Definition
DataSources that exist in the database only in the metadata tables that are valid for BW Release 3.x or lower are emulated for display and use by the interfaces of the new DataSource concept. The metadata tables of the new DataSource concept are not filled; the object is instantiated from the metadata tables of 3.x and earlier releases.
Such a DataSource is referred to as a DataSource 3.x below.
The system reproduces a DataSource from a DataSource 3.x or emulates the DataSource if this is used as the source by a data transfer process.
Use
Note the following for DataSources 3.x:
- You cannot change a DataSource 3.x using the DataSource maintenance; you can change it only using the transfer rule maintenance.
- You can use a data transfer process to extract and redistribute data from the PSA of a DataSource 3.x. You can display the emulated version in the BW DataSource maintenance screen.
- In a DataSource 3.x, you can load data only with the <= 3.x loading methodology, that is, in the runtime environment of the transfer rules.
- You can migrate a DataSource 3.x to a DataSource of the new concept. You can then modify the DataSource using the current tools and load it with the new loading methodology.
This migration can be reversed.
