Definition

A reference object is used to define a single BW object in the same way as for a different existing object in BW.

Example

You can create an InfoCube in the same way as for a communication structure of an InfoSource.

Use

A reference limits the (large) number of possible objects, from which a selection has to be made, to a more easily comprehensible, smaller number.
