Definition

The selection type of a characteristic in aggregates determines how the data of an InfoCubes is to be summarized in the aggregate.

• The selection type 'grouped according to characteristic values' ('*') means that transaction data for all characteristic values exist in the aggregate.
• If a characteristic has the selection type 'Do not use characteristic in the aggregate (' '), then the characteristic values are not broken down in the aggregate. Therefore, with such an aggregate, you can no longer drill down using this characteristic.
• There is still the option of only adding the transaction data for a particular fixed value (selection type 'F') of a characteristic, or of a particular level (selection type 'H') of a characteristic hierarchy.

In general, it is therefore essential that the size of an aggregate increases with the number of '*'-selection types, and decreases with ' '-selection types.
