Definition

If you want to log on to BW in several clients, you have to specify ( in table field RSADMINA-BWMANDTRFC) an RFC destination that runs in the default BW clients of the same system.

Use

You have to create this destination with a user and password. For security reasons, we recommend that you create a separate system user or communication user for this. This cannot be used for a normal logon (a dialog user is not necessary).

In BW, master data ID's and dimension ID's are taken from number ranges. The BW objects are client-independent but the number range intervals are client-dependent. Since the ID's have to be unique, they can only be determined in one client. This means that you can usually run BW only in one client.

BW objects are cross-client. You can access and changed them in all clients. The BW display is the same in all clients. There is only one Myself source system, since partner profiles for the source systems are client-dependent. Therefore, when you start the Administrator Workbench, the system checks whether you are working in the same client as the one in which the Myself source system was created.

Particularly in APO, it may be worthwhile using different clients since APO customizing is client-dependent. By entering an RFC destination in the RSADMINA-BWMANDTRFC field, you can log on in several clients and use the BW functions in all of them.
Warning !!! The BW objects are still cross-client. This option simply technically enables you to work with BW in different clients. The BW display is still identical in all clients.

Procedure

The default client is still in table RSADMINA in the BWMANDT field. You must not change this entry under any circumstances ! If you do, this can render all data in all InfoCubes and all master data tables useless ! Numbers are pulled and created exclusively in this client.

In transaction SM59, create an RFC destination for this default client with the following properties:

  • RFC destination: Name from table RSADMINA-BWMANDTRFC
  • Connection type: R/3 connection
  • Client: Default client from table RSADMINA-BWMANDT

You either have to give the connection a password or set it as a trusted system. You must be able to log on using this connection without any additional password requests.

If you want to load data in your new client (also ODS update and file source systems!):

  • In you new client, create partner connections for all source systems as IDENTICAL copies (including the name) of the partners in the BW default client. You can use the client copier for this.
  • Create the BW background user (BWREMOTE) with the profile S_BI-WHM_RFC. Make sure that it has the same name as in the BW standard client.
  • Note: The connection of new source systems (also file source systems) is not supported by BW outside of the default client.
