Definition

This parameter designates the maximum number of item combinations with the highest possible item support that should be taken into account during the affinity analysis.

The support for an item combination (A, B) is defined as follows:

Support (A, B) = number of transactions containing item A and B / number of all transactions according to selection.

Use

Together with parameter Minimum Support %, this parameter indirectly controls the number of items to be considered in the affinity analysis. You cannot draw any conclusions from rules consisting of items that appear only infrequently.

Dependencies

The system evaluates the parameters Minimum Support and Top X Item Combinations independently of each other. It takes only such item combinations into account that exceed the minimum support and are in the top X of their support.

You must not exceed the maximum number of top X item combinations specified in the configuration in any analysis run that refers to the relevant configuration. For this reason, the amount serves as a global setting for limiting runtime and memory use.
