Documentation
Definition
This parameter designates the minimum support that an item combination must have for it to be considered in the affinity analysis. The support for an item combination (A,B) is defined as follows:
Support (A,B) = number of transactions containing item A and B / number of all transactions according to selection.
Use
Together with parameter Top X Item Combination, this parameter indirectly controls the number of items that should be considered in the affinity analysis. No useful conclusions can be drawn from rules consisting only of items that seldom appear.
Dependencies
As the support for an item combination (A,B) cannot be smaller than the support for A or B, this parameter automatically acts as the lower limit for the minimum item support.
The system evaluates the parameters Minimum Support and Top X Item Combinations independently of each other. It only takes item combinations into account that exceed the minimum support and are in the top X of their support.
You must not fall below the minimum support specified in the configuration for an item combination in any analysis run that refers to the relevant configuration. For this reason, the minimum support serves as a global setting for limiting runtime and memory use.
