Documentation
The two types of attributes are as follows:
- Display attributes (DIS)
- Navigation attributes (NAV)
Display attributes
All attributes are display attributes as default. Furthermore, display attributes for the characteristic can be still be shown in additional columns in a query when drilling down according to a characteristic.
Example
Thus in the drilldown according to cost center (and only then), you can still see the attribute 'person responsible'.
Use
It is not possible to expand or filter the data according to a display attribute.
Navigation attributes
Characteristics, that are not exclusively marked as attributes, can be converted into navigation attributes.
Navigation attributes are parts of the query cube and are read when selecting data. With this process, you can filter according to display attributes and expand the data according to a display attribute.
Example
If the attribute 'person responsible' is a navigation attribute of cost center, then the person responsible for the cost center is determined for each data record, that is selected from the InfoCube, from the master data table, and the data record is increased by this value.
No difference is made in the Business Explorer between characteristics and navigation attributes. You must allocate one of your own texts for each navigation attribute, since the situation can arise whereby the characteristic exists both directly in the InfoCube (historical view as posted) and as a navigation attribute (current view).
To differentiate both of these objects from each other in the Business Explorer, you require different texts.
