Definition

The term InfoProvider in Business Information Warehouse (as of Release 3.0) groups together various databasis meta-objects that a query definition can uniformly consider to be data providers and thus whose data also can be uniformly reported. This includes the following objects:

• ODS Object
• InfoCube
• InfoObject, if master data and/or texts are available
• InfoSet
• MultiProvider

Notes:

• The term InfoProvider ignores criteria such as type of procurement of the data, level of detail, or "closeness" to the OLTP system in the data flow diagram. It merely states that the object carries data suited for an evaluation using query.
• An InfoProvider is not a new BW object, but rather a collective term for a group of existing BW objects.
