Documentation
Definition
Specifies how a role is to be staffed.
Use
Staffed by Project Lead
The role is staffed by the project lead or a resource manager within the project. The following authorizations are necessary for this:
- Administration
- Resource management
Staffed by Resource Manager via Authorization
Staffing takes place via a resource management application outside the project. The external application must support this staffing type.
A user with staffing manager authorization receives all roles in the project with this staffing type in his or her worklist and has to staff these roles with resources. A user who has candidate manager authorization receives all roles in the project with this staffing type in his or her worklist and can assign candidates to them there. Assigning candidates is optional and you can leave this step out. It may be that the resource management application does not support this function.
You assign the authorization for Staffing Manager and Candidate Manager in the project definition once (on the Authorizations tab page).
Staffed by Resource Manager via Responsible Organization
Staffing takes place via a resource management application outside the project. The external application must support this staffing type.
The role can have different statuses. The status governs whether the project lead or a staffing or candidate manager from the responsible organization is responsible for editing the role:
- The project lead can only assign responsibilities for staffing and candidate assignment if the status is Staffing in Preparation.
- The assigned staffing or candidate managers can only assign resources if the status is Staffing in Process. Once staffing has been completed, the role automatically has the status Staffing Complete.
For each role, you must at least enter a responsible organizational unit for staffing; if you want to use candidate management, you also have to enter a responsible organizational unit. You also have the option of entering a specific person responsible from the organization for the role in both cases: If you enter a specific user from the organizational unit, this user is responsible. If you do not enter a specific user, all users in the organizational unit are responsible.
Dependencies
- In project templates and checklist templates, the current template responsible can only assign resources and candidates in roles that have the staffing type by Project Lead.
- If you choose Staffed by Resource Manager via Responsible Organization, the Staffing Process tab page is visible in Project Management.
Note
It is not possible to enter assigned effort for the resource assignment in the following cases:
- If distribution is active for the role (see Define Project Role Types) and the resource management application only supports the total demand and not the distribution of the demand.
- If distribution is not active for the role and the resource management application only supports the distribution of demand and not the total demand.
