Definition
If the shipping unit is closed, the loading volume of the contents is not added to the total volume.
Example
A wooden crate is a closed shipping unit. It has the same volume in its empty state as in its full state.
A wire basket is also a closed shipping unit, even though it is possible to fill it over its actual volume.
A pallet is NOT a closed shipping unit. In this case, the total volume is the volume of the pallet plus the volume of the goods packed on it.
