Definition
Parental leave can be taken by either parent after the birth or adoption of a child.
Use
Parental leave is unpaid, however it is linked to an existing absence quota type (usually annual leave). This absence quota continues to accrue while the employee is away on parental leave. However, when the employee takes leave from this absence quota, the payment of the leave depends on whether the employee took parental leave during the leave year. If he or she took parental leave, annual leave from which the absence quota is paid at the average rate rather than the current rate or the higher of the two.
