Documentation
Definition
Number of subjects within an academic specialization.
Use
A program can be assigned a module group variant that defines the number of majors and minors it contains. When you register a student for a program, you can assign academic specializations to this program using the transaction Student File. By assigning an academic specialization to a student, you define the number of majors and minors that a student in this program must take.
Enter the number of subjects that the academic specialization contains. If you do not specify a number, you can use the function Add lines and enter any number of subjects you like.
Example
Example 1:
You have created a module group variant with 1 major and 2 minors.
To map this in the system, you set up two instances of this module group variant.
For the instance of the module group variant in the module group category major, you enter 1. This entry indicates that this combination of module group variant and module group category contains one subject. Then you enter one major as the student's academic specialization.
For the instance of the module group variant in the module group category minor, you enter 2. This entry indicates that this combination of module group variant and module group category contains two subjects. Then you enter two minors as the student's academic specialization.
Example 2:
You have created a module group variant with 1 major and at least 2 minors.
To map this in the system, you set up two instances of this module group variant.
For the instance of the module group variant in the module group category Major, you enter 1. This entry indicates that this combination of module group variant and module group category contains one subject. Then you enter one major as the student's academic specialization.
For the instance of the module group variant in the module group category Minor, you leave the field Number empty. A blank entry indicates that this combination of module group variant and module group category contains an undefined number of subjects. Using the function Add lines which appears on the academic specialization maintenance screen when you do not specify a number, you enter the desired number of minors as the student's academic specialization.
