Definition
Base value for mapping linear scales to the standard scale.
Use
The base value enables you to map different academic scales to the standard scale, and convert values from one scale to another. The base value is the standard scale value that represents the lowest value of the scale you are converting.
When you have mapped different academic scales to the standard scale, you can convert the values of one scale to those of another.
Example
The standard scale has a value range from 0.00 to 100,000.00. 0.00 is the lowest value, and 100,000.00 the highest.
A linear scale A has a value range from A to Z. Z is the lowest value, and A the highest.
On the standard scale, Z corresponds to 1500 and A to 100,000.00. In this case, the base value is 1500.
A different linear scale B, with the value range from 0 to 100, has a base value of 20 on the standard scale.
When you convert Scale A to Scale B values, you use the standard scale as the basis for conversion.
