Definition

Gratuity is a benefit provided to the employee on the cessation of his services. Payment of gratuity to an employee is determined by the Payment of gratuity Act, 1972 or by the company policy if the benefits provided by the company are better than those offered by the Act.

Indicates the amount contributed by the employer. This value is a percentage of the employee's salary.

This is a statutory contribution where the annual contribution by the employer must be an equivalent of or more than 15 days salary earned by the employee in one year.
