Definition

Late Joiner penalty years: years for which a medical aid member or their dependants do not have creditable coverage.

Creditable coverage - any period of verifiable medical scheme membership of the applicant or their dependant, but excluding membership as a child dependant (terminating two years or more before the date of the latest application for membership).

Late Joiner - an applicant or the adult dependant of an applicant who, at the date of application for membership, is 35 years of age or older and has not been a member or an adult dependant of a member of any medical scheme for a period of two years immediately prior to applying for membership.
