Documentation
Definition
A unique number issued by the Australian Taxation Office to identify employees who submit income tax returns to the office.
Use
The tax file number is maintained in the TFN Australia infotype (0227) to ensure that only users with the correct authorisation can view the number.
Dependencies
The Tax File Number Available/Not Available field indicates whether the employee has a tax file number without disclosing the number.
Tax File Number is a 9 digit numeric field, right justified and can contain values from 000000000 to 999999999.
In circumstances where a payee is not required to quote or has chosen not to quote the TFN, one of the following code numbers must be used in place of the TFN.
000000000 - No TFN quoted by the payee. The payee chooses not to quote a TFN or fails to provide one within the 14 day reporting period.
111111111 - Payee applying for a TFN. A declaration has been obtained from a payee that he/she does not want to provide a TFN, but indicates on the declaration that one has been applied for.
333333333 - Payee under Eighteen. The payee is under the age of eighteen. He/she does not earn enough for tax to be deducted and claims the general exemption from quoting a TFN.
444444444 - Payee is a Pensioner. The payee is also a recipient of a social security, service pension or benefit (other than New Start, sickness allowance, special benefits or partner allowance) and claims the exemption from quoting a TFN.
987654321 - Alphabetic Characters in Quoted TFN. The payee has quoted a TFN with alpha characters. In that case, code 987654321 must be used in place of the quoted TFN. This code must also be used when the TFN quoted by the payee cannot be contained in the TFN field.
