Definition
The setting you perform here determines the method that the system will apply to return any unused balance of the absence leave donation at hand.
Use
Depending upon the policy of your organization, specify one of the following three options to determine the recipient(s) of any unused absence leave balance.
- Return to pools only
If an employee has only received the donation by withdrawing leave from a pool only, then we recommend that you use this option to return the unused balance. You may also use the third option - Return to pools and employees - to arrive at the same result. But if you instead choose the second option - Return to employees only - then the system will forfeit, rather than return, the unused balance.
- Return to employees only
If the employee has directly received the donation from other employees, then we recommend this option. You may also use the next option to arrive at the same result. But if you instead choose the previous option, then the system will forfeit the unused balance.
- Return to pools and employees
If the employee received leave both from an absence leave pool and from other employees, then we recommend this option, which will proportionally return the unused balance to all sources. If you choose the first option, then the system will return the appropriate portion of the unused balance to the absence leave pool and forfeit the rest. If you choose the second option, then only the donors will receive the appropriate portion of the return; the rest will be forfeited.

Example
Suppose that an employee of your organization withdrew 10 hours of leave from the absence leave pool ALP1. Afterward, the employee received direct donations from three colleagues, as follows:
- 2 hours from one colleague
- 3 hours from a second colleague
- 5 hours from a third colleague
Upon returning from leave, the employee had an unused balance of 8 hours. Depending upon the return option you select here, this balance would be returned to the absence leave pool and the donor colleagues in different ways, described below.
- Note
- This example assumes that you have specified 15 Minutes in the Return Increment field.
- Option 1 - Return to pools only
If this option is selected, then 8 hours will be returned to absence leave pool ALP1 and no hours will be returned to the donor colleagues. - Option 2 - Return to employees only
If this option is selected, then: - no hours will be returned to absence leave pool ALP1.
- 1.5 hours will be returned to the first colleague.
( 8 / 10 ) * 2 = 1.6 hours = 96 minutes.
90 minutes will be returned, and 6 minutes will be forfeited. - 2.25 hours will be returned to the second colleague.
( 8 / 10 ) * 3 = 2.4 hours = 144 minutes.
135 minutes will be returned, and 9 minutes will be forfeited. - 4 hours will be returned to the third colleague.
( 8 / 10 ) * 5 = 4 hours = 240 minutes.
240 minutes will be returned, and no minutes will be forfeited. - Option 3 - Return to pools and employees
If this option is selected, then: - 4 hours will be returned to absence leave pool ALP1.
( 8 / 20 ) * 10 = 4 hours = 240 minutes.
240 minutes will be returned, and no minutes will be forfeited. - 0.75 hours will be returned to the first colleague.
( 8 / 20 ) * 2 = 0.8 hours = 48 minutes.
45 minutes will be returned, and 3 minutes will be forfeited. - 1 hour will be returned to the second colleague.
( 8 / 20 ) * 3 = 1.2 hours = 72 minutes.
60 minutes will be returned, and 12 minutes will be forfeited. - 2 hours will be returned to the third colleague.
( 8 / 20 ) * 5 = 2 hours = 120 minutes.
120 minutes will be returned, and no minutes will be forfeited.
