Definition
The entry in this field contains an arbitrary one- to four-character designation that classifies, and thereby forms groupings for, individual areas of expertise in which employees are certified or licensed.
In Customizing for Payroll USA (PY-US), you configure these designations by choosing Supplements Public Sector US -> Certification and Licensing -> Settings -> Areas -> Define Classifications.
Example
In an academic workplace, principals and superintendents could be grouped under the classification ADM - Administration, while psychologists and social workers could be grouped under the classification COUN - Counseling.
In a medical workplace, paramedics could be grouped under the classification EMT - Paramedics, while Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses could be grouped under the classification NURS - Nurses.
