Documentation
Definition
This field contains the number of days of service that the employee has cumulated under the current pension plan. Added to the number of years and months, the number of service days will be used to calculate the amount of the total pension award upon the employee's retirement.
The field accommodates four types of service days, including:
Supplementary Documentation - P10_SVCDD 0001
Grandfathered
This field indicates the amount of service that the employee cumulated under any pension plan that was replaced by a subsequent valid plan.
If your enterprise first terminated a pension plan (or allowed it to expire), then later designated a valid replacement plan, then the service cumulated under the prior plan will be recorded as grandfathered service in this field.
Supplementary Documentation - P10_SVCDD 0002
Calculated
This field indicates the amount of service cumulated by the employee both under prior pension plans and under the current plan.
Thus, the amount in this field is the sum of two kinds of service:
- the amount of Grandfathered service specified above, and
- the amount of service accumulated under the current plan.
Supplementary Documentation - P10_SVCDD 0003
Manual adjustment
This field indicates a manual adjustment in the amount of service that the employee has cumulated. The adjustment indicator, at right, shows whether the adjustment is to be added to or subtracted from the amount of Calculated service specified above.
Supplementary Documentation - P10_SVCDD 0004
Total
This field indicates the sum of all service amounts that the employee has cumulated. The amount indicated here represents the amount of Calculated service specified above, plus/minus any manual adjustments.
Example
Robin Smith has cumulated two years of service under a previous pension plan and three years of service under the current pension plan. However, a six-month leave of unpaid absence taken by Robin was incorrectly recorded as pensionable. Thus, a six-month negative manual adjustment must be made to Robin's record, which appears as follows:
Year(s) Month(s) Day(s) Adj. type
Grandfathered 2.0000 0.0000 0.0000
Calculated 5.0000 0.0000 0.0000
Manual adjustment 0.5000 0.0000 0.0000 Subtract
Total 4.5000 0.0000 0.0000
