Payment types, compensation and noncompensation,
determine which IRS form is needed to filed in order to claim exemption from withholding for personal services that is exempt from tax under a U.S. tax treaty. For compensatory payment type, Form 8233 should be filed to a tax withholding agent, while Form 1001 is for non compensatory payment type.
