Definition
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a term used to describe a variety of approaches to resolving conflict rather than adjudicatory methods of adversarial methods. Numerous ADR techniques are available for use by agencies. Examples of traditional adjudicatory methods include litigation, hearing, and agency administrative processing appeals.
Mediation is a form of ADR in use by agencies in employment related disputes, where intervention is used in a dispute or a negotiation of an acceptable, impartial and natural third party, who has no decision-making authority.
