The standard system by default reviews the check date to determine the issue date of the U.S. Savings Bond(s) in question. If you wish to modify this issue date, enter an alternative date in this field. In response, the system will report the month and year of your field entry - rather than the month and year of the check date - as MMYY in positions 2-5 of Record A.
