Documentation
Definition
The Minimum Pensionable Salary ER is the amount below which the employer does not pay pension contributions. If the pensionable salary exceeds this amount, the employer has to pay pension contributions for the full wage minus the 'franchise' (portion of salary disregarded in calculating pension contribution).
Example:
- Minimum pensionable salary 40,000
- 'Franchise' 30,000
- Contribution percentage 5%
If an employee's pensionable salary is 35,000 the employer does not pay any pension contribution. If, on the other hand, the pensionable salary is 45,000, then the employer pays pension contributions over 45,000 - 30,000 = 15,000. 5% of 15,000 is 750 a year.
For pension calculations based on SI days you must enter a daily amount. For all other calculation methods you must enter the minimum annual amount.
Note:
If you enter a minimum employer contribution (in field Minimum Contribution ER), then the minimum contribution also applies if the pensionable salary does not exceed the minimum pensionable salary.
