Functionality
When surviving dependents' pensions are calculated, the first step is to determine all of the testator's surviving dependents. The number of each type of surviving dependent (such as orphan, widow) is determined.
Based on this number, the reduction percentage rate to apply to surviving dependents of the same type is determined (among other things).
In the process, the system selects the percentage rate that is closest to or equal to the minimum actual number of surviving dependents of a given type.
Example
The following reduction percentage rates have been defined in the system for orphan's pensions:
Reduction % rate Lower limit SD of same type
12% 1
10% 2
6% 3
5% 4
- A testator leaves behind 3 orphans -> The reduction percentage rate of 6% is used to calculate the orphans' pensions.
- A testator leaves behind 5 orphans -> The reduction percentage rate is 5%.
