Definition
A number (numeric code) that indicates the method of payment: check, EFT, lockbox, etc.
Payments are made to the U.S. federal government, Minerals Management Service (MMS) as a result of removing mineral and oil products from federal or Indian lands. The pay code identifies how payments of that kind are made.
Possible payment codes are:
1 = Check to MMS
2 = Payments to others (Indian tribes)
3 = EFT (electronic fund transfer) payment
4 = Royalty-in-Kind
5 = Checks to MMS for BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs)
6 = EFT to BIA
7 = Indian Lockbox/ 'payments to lockbox'
Note:
- If the Federal / Indian indicator is set to "I", then only payment method codes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 are valid.
- If the Federal / Indian indicator is "F", then only payment method codes 1, 3, 4, and 6 are valid.
