Definition

The lease number for the specific property.

Lease numbers are assigned by the MMS (Minerals Management Service). Each lease is given a number by the MMS, that is used to identify it for the government when reporting takes place.

The MMS lease number must be a valid MMS-converted lease number.

A lease is defined by the MMS as "Any contract, profit-sharing arrangement, joint venture, or agreement issued or approved by the United States under a mineral leasing law that authorizes exploration for, extraction of, or removal of oil or gas."
