Definition
Safety cover is the number of days that need to be considered in the safety stock calculation during planning. It is the the number of days that the safety stock level should cover.
Example
If a location sells 5,000 gallons per day and it is necessary to have enough stock to supply for 10 days, then the safety stock level is 5,000 gallons x 10 days= 50,000 gallons of safety stock. The safety cover is the number of days the location could continue to make issues after the safety stock level is reached, based on the standard day.
