Definition
The thermal expansion coefficient.
Factor that describes the behaviour of the material with respect to temperature.
For oil materials with 'chemical' as the product type (defined in the conversion group), a fixed density is assigned to the material and this, along with the coefficient of thermal expansion, is used in the oil quantity conversion calculations to correct the volume to standard temperature.
The range of valid entries for the thermal expansion cefficient is as follows (API c-code documentation, 1998 shipment):
Table 24C (conversion group 234C) 0.00027 to 0.00097 °F-1
Table 6C (conversion group 56C ) 0.00027 to 0.00097 °F-1
Table 54C (conversion group 534C) 0.000486 to 0.001674 °C-1
Table 60C (conversion group 596C) 0.000486 to 0.001674 °C-1
