Use
You can calculate interest on the basis of months that have been completed or months that have been started.
In each case this concerns interest calculation relating to a key date in the month.
Example 1
Interest has never been calculated on a particular item before and is now to be calculated for the period from April 10, 2004 to May 15, 2004.
A) Months started:
Since these dates occur in two consecutive months, interest will be calculated for two months. The interest rates applicable on the two dates are used. The key date used for the month is '10'.
B) Months completed:
On May 9, 2004 the first month is complete. The second month will only be complete on June 9, 2004. Interest will be calculated for one month only and the key date will be '09'.
Example 1, Update
Interest is to be calculated subsequently up to June 09, 2004. The interest history shows that interest was previously calculated up to May 15, 2004. The new period is from May 16, 2004 to June 09, 2004.
A) Months started:
The key date '10' is read from the interest history. This does not appear in the period for which interest is to be calculated, therefore, interest will be zero.
B) Months completed:
Key date '09' is read from the interest history. This date is contained once in the period for which interest is to be calculated. Interest is calculated for one month.
Note
Particular aspects of the key date in the month:
- If the first date to be calculated for interest is the first of the month, then '31' is used as the key date when calculating interest on the basis of a whole month.
- For days at the end of the month that do not apply, you can set the key date to the last possible day in the same calendar month or to the day after.
Example 2
The first date for interest calculation is January 31, 2004.
A) Months started:
The key date stored in the interest history is '31'. If you selected key date in calendar month, the last possible date in the calendar month will be used. The sequence of days in which the interest for a month is due is: Jan. 31, Feb. 28, March 31, April 30 and so on.
B) Months completed:
The key date stored in interest history is '30'. If you selected Move key date to next one as applicable, the sequence of days in which the interest for a month is due will be: March 1, March 30, April 30, and so on.
