You can create different balance categories from the value or quantity flows of a ledger. This field defines which balance category the system is to read.

• Ending balance:
  This is the balance at the end of a period that results from all flows
• Average balance:
  This is the balance created by the average of the balances of a period
• Period balance:
  This is the balance that results from all the flows of a period
