Documentation
Definition
Standardized uniform ID number representing bank account details, in accordance with the ECBS (European Commitee for Banking Standards). An IBAN contains a maximum of 34 alphanumeric characters and is composed of a combination of the following elements:
- Country key of the bank (ISO code)
- Two check digits
- Country-specific account number (for example, in Germany, this consists of the bank code and the account number. In France, this is the bank code, the account number, and the control key)
Use
Use of the IBAN facilitates cross-border payments, but also has advantages for domestic payment transactions in some countries. Depending on the country, you can obtain value and charges benefits.
Dependencies
The IBAN can be used in parallel with the bank details, but cannot replace them. The IBAN is saved under the master data of the business partner and can be used when creating a payment medium.
The SAP system simply generates a proposal as only the bank that manages the account is allowed to generate the IBAN that corresponds to an account number. You can either confirm or change this proposal. If no proposal could be generated, you enter the IBAN yourself.
Example
In Belgium, an IBAN could appear as follows:
Electronic format:
BE62510007547061
Printed format that appears on the statement:
IBAN BE62 5100 0754 7061
