Definition

A DataSource is an object for transferring data. The DataSource is localized in a OLTP (SAP system).

It contains the following:

• an extract structure
• an extraction type
• an extraction method

The extract structure describes the fields in the internal tables that contain the extracted data. The extraction type describes the type of extractor used by the DataSource. The extraction method extracts the data and transfers it to an internal table from the same type as the extract structure.

The DataSource also contains information about the type of data that it provides, for example attributes, transactional data, hierarchies or texts. It can also support various update types of data.
